Support for foster carers

At Hillingdon Council we know how important it is to feel supported as a foster carer.

Financial support

Foster carers receive an allowance up to £428.32 per week depending on the child's age (paid when you have a child in placement). This covers the costs of caring for a child and includes a professional skills and training fee to recognise the work foster carers do. Foster carers are self-employed.

Hillingdon foster carer allowances exceed the Government's national minimum fostering allowance.

This allowance is to cover the costs of looking after a child, including care and expenses such as:

  • food
  • transport
  • clothing
  • holiday clubs and leisure activities
  • pocket money
  • savings for the child etc.

This element will not affect any benefits you may currently be receiving.

Allowances are regularly reviewed to ensure they meet the children's needs.
