The Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) is a statement of the provision of pharmacy services in the local area.
The PNA allows consideration to be given to applications for new pharmacies or changes to existing services by seeing how the services are provided will meet an identified need. The PNA also assists in identifying whether changes to commissioned services are required to ensure that both current and future needs are met.
The Health and Social Care Act 2012 established Health and Wellbeing Boards to improve the health and wellbeing of the local population and to reduce health inequalities. The Act transferred the responsibility to develop and update Pharmaceutical Needs Assessments from Primary Care Trusts to Health and Wellbeing Boards.
The Hillingdon PNA has been developed through an analysis of Hillingdon demography, epidemiology, a survey of local Pharmacies and analysis of pharmacy services available to residents.
The PNA is supported by a number of appendices - available below
The 2018 PNA included the services of 65 pharmacies within the Hillingdon boundary. As of the 13 April 2020, there are now 64 pharmacies. Boots at 123 Field End Road in Eastcote has closed. Eastcote now has 3 pharmacies and continues to have transport links to further pharmacy support in other shopping centres within our borough, as well as across the boundary into neighbouring boroughs.
