Hillingdon's council tax reduction scheme 2019/20

You are not liable to pay council tax until you are 18. To claim council tax reduction you must be liable to pay council tax (you are the person whose name is on the bill).

The council tax reduction (CTR) scheme provides financial help for people on a low income. The amount you receive is calculated based on your income and the size and needs of your household.

Due to the ongoing reductions in Hillingdon council's overall government funding, and following consultation with residents, we have introduced a number of changes to the local CTR scheme from April 2018.

These changes do not affect:

  • single person discount
  • pensioners (those who have reached the qualifying age for state pension credit) - this group is protected by legislation
  • households where the person liable for council tax (or their partner, if applicable) receives a war widow's pension, war disablement pension, or armed forces/reserve forces compensation scheme.

All councils are required to create a local scheme, so Hillingdon's may differ from those being operated in neighbouring boroughs.

You can check how much you may receive using the online calculator or find out more about the CTRS.
