Works to improve safety along Shepiston Lane

News release: 1/2/18 - Hillingdon Council is reassuring residents who have raised concerns regarding road safety, following a tragic incident on Shepiston Lane, Hayes on Friday 26 January.

The council began an investigation to introduce new road safety measures along the road after a fatal collision involving a motorcycle in February 2016 within the 30mph zone, and work is due to be completed later this month.

Councillor Keith Burrows, Cabinet Member for Planning, Transportation and Recycling at Hillingdon Council, said: "We were very saddened to hear about the tragic incident on Shepiston Lane, Hayes on Friday evening, and our thoughts and condolences are with the families of the boys, and all those affected at this terrible time.

"The safety of our residents is our main priority, and over the past year we have invested more than £1 million into improving Shepiston Lane.

"We have been working closely with the London Fire Brigade, Metropolitan Police, and other emergency services to reduce the speed limit, and have also introduced an extensive new road safety scheme."

Road safety improvements are already underway including reducing the speed limit in the centre section of Shepiston Lane from the national speed limit to 40mph, which will provide a gradual reduction from the Stockley Bypass.

New speed limit signs are currently being installed by Hillingdon Council, as well as electronic vehicle activated speed signs, which will be completed by Sunday 18 February.

Additional works along Shepiston Lane have included the resurfacing of the carriageway, footways, a cycleway and new street lighting. The council is also working with its partners, including Transport for London, to explore options for further safety enhancements to the road.
