Ryefield Avenue Parade

Enhancing Ryefield Parade to meet the day-to-day needs of local residents.

Ryefield Avenue Parade is the first neighbourhood parade to be benefiting from the popular shop front grant scheme and public realm improvements. The council recognises that neighbourhood parades such as Ryefield Avenue meet the day-to-day needs of local residents. They are mainly focused around convenience retail (top-up small basket shopping) and everyday services. This is particularly important for older people, residents with mobility limitations and residents who may not have access to a car as well as providing a range of eating options for residents to enjoy.

Our proposals include supporting the independent businesses who make up Ryefield Avenue Parade through the popular shop front scheme giving traders a boost by increasing footfall and business taking. This will be alongside improving the overall look and vitality of the area with better paving, street lighting and landscaping.

Shop Front Grant Scheme

All the independent businesses were invited to take part in the scheme, giving shop owners grants of up to £4,800 to greatly improve the look and feel of the area. The businesses contribute at least 20% of the cost of the shop front improvements.

See below some of the changes which have been implemented through the shop front grant scheme.

Neelam Post Office has been a hub of the community for 41 years, providing a much needed service for local residents. Run by Gaurave 'G' Sood, his dad Pradeep and his brother Jay, the store was in desperate need of a new sign and repairs to the canopy.

"It was a real help, because signs are so expensive nowadays. If the council didn't run the scheme we probably wouldn't have been able to do it. We have seen some new faces, and it's lovely because they've cleaned up the top of the buildings so the whole area ties in together. Now we have a nice area to be proud of. It's making a huge difference"
