News release: 14/6/18 - Hillingdon Council's Waste Services has partnered up with Dogs Trust by transporting 800 recycled duvets to give animals a comfier living space at its rehoming centre in Harefield.

On Tuesday 12 June, the council collected duvets that were left by students at Brunel University at the end of the academic year and delivered them to the Dogs Trust rehoming centre in Harefield, so they can be used as bedding by the dogs being cared for there.

This has been an ongoing annual partnership for a number of years and an effective recycling initiative in finding a use for these items which would otherwise end up in landfill.

Jo Lloyd, Assistant Manager at Dogs Trust West London based in Harefield, said: "I have worked on this scheme for several years now and think it's an invaluable project to the rehoming centre. Adding home comforts to the kennels until the dogs leave us for their new forever homes helps them to feel more relaxed, and reduces their stress levels during their time here."

Cllr Keith Burrows, Hillingdon Council Cabinet Member for Planning, Transportation and Recycling, said: "The council is pleased to continue to work in partnership with Dogs Trust and Brunel University to ensure these items are recycled and go to a beneficial cause. Animal charities are often looking for duvets, towels and cuddly toys for their canine friends and welcome donations from the public."
