Northwood Conservation Area Consultation and Locally Listed Buildings

Consultation on Northwood Town Centre, Green Lane Conservation Area Appraisal and 14 new entries to the Council's Local List of Buildings of Architectural Importance.

Hillingdon Council will be carrying out a six-week consultation from Wednesday 12 June 2019 on the Northwood Town Centre Green Lane Conservation Area Appraisal and 14 new entries to the Council's Local List of Buildings of Architectural Importance.

The Draft Conservation Area Appraisal (CAA) outlines the historic and architectural significance of the Northwood Town Centre, Green Lane Conservation Area and describes its character and appearance.

The character of a conservation area is defined by a combination of architecture, building materials and detailing as well as the relationship between buildings and their settings. Many other elements contribute to character such as the placement of buildings within their plots; views and vistas; the relationship between the street and the buildings and the presence of trees and green space.

The Local List of Buildings of Architectural or Historic Importance recognises buildings that are considered to be of local architectural and historic importance that contribute significantly to the unique character and sense of local distinctiveness of the Borough. The proposed 14 buildings to be added to the list have been assessed against the council's Eligibility Criteria and scoring for Locally Listed Buildings (2009) and are considered to merit inclusion on the list, their designation supports the work undertaken as part of the development of the character appraisal.

The council would like to hear residents' and businesses views regarding what makes Northwood Town Centre, Green Lane Conservation Area special and to receive feedback on the proposed 14 entries to the council's Local List of Buildings of Architectural Importance.

The consultation runs from 12 June until 24 July.

The documents can be viewed below. Hard copies of the documents will also be available at the Resident Services Planning Reception Area on 3 North at the Civic Centre, High Street, Uxbridge, UB8 1UW during opening hours (Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm) and within Northwood Library.

The public are invited to comment on the appraisal and list entries by emailing heritageconservation@hillingdon.gov.uk.

Note: This consultation is NOT concerned with the designation of a new conservation area. The council asks for views on an appraisal that describes the character and appearance of areas which have already been designated.
