Ickenham Marsh

A40 to Ruislip Lido 3 miles, 2 to 2.5 hours.

  • The walk starts at the A40.
  • Use the tunnels to cross the A40 and follow the path along the west bank of Yeading Brook.
  • Turn left at the bridge, leaving the Brook and follow the path, joining the track to the junction with Glebe Avenue.
  • Continue ahead along the made-up roadway of Austins Lane, then cross the bridge over the underground line to Ickenham High Road.
  • Nearby is The Fox and Geese Public House, for refreshments. There is a car park and public toilets at Community Close. 
  • Keep on the pavement, turn right and cross the road after 60 metres, using the central refuge.
  • Continue going northwards, on the pavement, then after 260 metres turn left into Ickenham Green Open Space.
  • The Soldiers Return Public House is 30 metres further on, for refreshments. A little way further on is West Ruislip Station (Central Line Underground and Marylebone mainline) with a car park.
  • Keep walking then turn right after the allotments, along a made up path leading to The Greenway.
  • Cross diagonally right and enter a tunnel under the railway line and proceed across the Golf Course.
  • After 80 metres go through a copse, then continue across the Golf Course, then after a further 160 metres turn left at the Canal Feeder bridge dated 1929 and turn left to enter Clack Lane.
  • Proceed along Clack Lane, cross a path and bear right, emerging on the bank of the River Pinn and go to the bridge.
  • Cross the bridge and stile ahead and cross the field diagonally, to the stile in the hedgerow. Cross this stile and walk up the path to Old Clack Farm, cross over the stile, turn right along the field edge.
  • After 140 metres turn right crossing the bridge over Cannon Brook and proceed to Ladygate Lane and turn left before crossing Cannon Brook after 80 metres. Cross the road at this point.
  • Continue ahead for 40 metres before turning right onto a tarmac footpath between the houses and proceed to Howletts Lane.
  • Cross Howletts Lane continuing northwards across the grassed open space to Breakspear Road. Walk across Breakspear Road, keeping on the west side of Bury Street.
  • Passover Ducks Hill Road at the centre refuge, to enter Reservoir Road and pass the main entrance of Ruislip Lido in 280 metres the car park is a short distance further on. The Water's Edge Restaurant serves various refreshments.
