Household domestic batteries

As most batteries contain either heavy metals or chemicals sending them to disposal in a landfill site or energy from waste plant creates a burden on the environment.

Be positive

Virtually all batteries can be recycled which is a much better way of dealing with them. From February 2010 it has been a legal requirement that any shop selling 32 kg of batteries each year (the equivalent of one pack of four AA batteries a day) should take back unwanted batteries for recycling. Look for the 'Be Positive' sign displayed

Most supermarkets and big DIY stores have a battery recycling bin visible near the entrance.

Battery types you can recycle

  • Batteries from scrap equipment such as electric toothbrushes or electric drills
  • Coin button batteries
  • Household domestic batteries Battery
  • Rechargeable batteries

Note: If the battery is too big please recycle them at New Years Green Lane. If your battery is leaking fluid, take care in wrapping it in a plastic bag before placing it in the battery banks.
