Exploring the Lido

Ruislip Lido open space

Ruislip Lido offers a range of facilities situated around a 60 acre lake and is home to many species of wildlife. The site proves to be very popular during the summer months but has something for everyone all year round. Surrounding Ruislip Lido is Ruislip Woods, a National Nature Reserve, which is well worth a visit, offering its own unique natural beauty and adventures.

There are many routes you can walk whilst exploring Ruislip Lido.

Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve

Set in 726 acres, Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve forms a large complex of structurally diverse and species-rich ancient woodland.

It is an ancient, semi-natural woodland in Greater London and include one of the most extensive oak/hornbeam coppice woods in southeast England. The site also includes acid and neutral grassland, ponds, streams and marshland.

Ruislip Woods, along with Ruislip Lido, are owned and managed by Hillingdon Council. We are fortunate in having several well-established volunteer ranger groups who work with us every week of the year, come rain or shine.

Note: Barbeques and fires are strictly prohibited throughout Ruislip Woods, including Ruislip Lido. Please dispose of your rubbish in the bins provided or take it home with you. volunteers

Ruislip Woods volunteers

Volunteers are one of our most valuable resources. The time individuals can spare, no matter how little, enables us to achieve far more than could otherwise be managed. Volunteer work as a woodland ranger offers the chance to put your skills and strengths to good use. You will also have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge, learn new skills and make new friends.

Walk the planets

Starting with the Sun, which is opposite the new boathouse, you will encounter each planet in order, outwards from the Sun as you take this interesting walk at Ruislip Lido.

Each planet is marked by an information display board, which will tell you more about them. There are feature pictures as viewed in the sky from Earth. It is an enjoyable and informative walk for everyone of all ages to take.
