Applying for a junior school place

If your child was born between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013 you may need to apply for a junior school place for September 2020. Only children who attend an Infant School need to apply for a Junior school placement.

Offer day

National offer day is Thursday 16 April 2020.

If you applied online, you will have received an email advising you to log back into your eadmissions account to view and accept your offer. If you have been offered your first preference at your linked junior school, you will not need to accept your offer as it will be automatically accepted. You will not receive an offer letter in the post; all relevant information will be available on the eadmissions website.

Outcome of application

If you submitted a paper application, your offer letter will have been posted with full instructions on how to accept your school offer. If you have been offered your first preference at your linked junior school, you will not need to accept your offer as it will be automatically accepted.

Please note: if you have changed your email address and do not receive an email, you can still log into your account.

For data protection reasons, the School Placement and Admissions team ca not advise parents/guardians of the outcome of their application over the telephone.

Declining your offer

If you applied online, you can decline the offer online. Please ensure you state the reason for the decline. If it is because you are unhappy with the offer you have been given, you are strongly advised to accept the offer because it will not prejudice your higher preferences. Your child will be placed on the waiting list for all schools you named as a higher preference.

Waiting lists

For Community schools, please contact the Local Authority. All Academy, Foundation, Free and Voluntary Aided (faith) schools hold their own waiting lists. Currently, these may not be available as schools are partially open for children of key workers and the most vulnerable only. Therefore, they may not be able to advise waiting list positions. Once the schools have fully reopened, parents can contact schools directly to find out their positions.

For Hillingdon non-faith and non-banded schools, the School Placement and Admissions team will try and assist you with waiting list positions. Please email the request to the team at: admissions@hillingdon.gov.uk. If the school is outside the borough of Hillingdon, you should contact the borough in which the school is situated to enquire whether the waiting list is provided by the school or the Local Authority. All contact details are published in our brochure online.

Appeals

You have the right of appeal under the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 against the refusal of a place at any of the schools for which you have applied. For Community schools, please contact the Local Authority. If you wish to appeal for an Academy, Foundation, Free or Voluntary Aided (faith) school, you must contact the school directly to obtain the appeal documentation.

Currently, schools may not be available via the telephone as schools are partially open for children of key workers and the most vulnerable only. Therefore, we would advise that you visit the school's website and where possible email the school your request. Alternatively, you could submit via email or post your appeal to the schools and ask that they consider your statement as your appeal. Please ask that the school acknowledges your request.

Alternatively, if the school is outside Hillingdon, please contact the borough in which the school is situated within the next few days to obtain the procedure and the date by which an appeal must be received by them.

We are currently awaiting a response from the Government as to whether there will be a change to the dates appeal paperwork must be lodged by, to ensure appeals can be heard before the start of term in September. We will update Hillingdon's admission appeals web page when further information is received from the Department of Education on the matter.

Late applications

The closing date for on-time applications was Wednesday 15 January 2020. However, you can still submit a late application online up until the end of July.

Apply now

Alternatively, you can request a paper application by calling the School Placement and Admissions team on 01895 556644.

Please be aware that any application submitted after the deadline will not be processed until after national offer day for all on-time applications.

How to apply

All Hillingdon residents with a child in Year 2 at any infant school must submit an application. Applications can be made for up to six junior schools; however, if you only wish to transfer your child to your linked Hillingdon junior school, you only need to include one preference.

Applications also need to be made for Hillingdon residents with pupils wishing to continue at a junior school in a different authority.

Residents of other boroughs wishing to apply for a Hillingdon junior school should contact their own local authority for details on how to make an application.

This applies to all Year 2 pupils who are:

  • currently attending an infant school in Hillingdon or a neighbouring authority; or
  • currently attending a primary school and you wish to transfer your child to a junior school in September 2020

This does not apply to Year 2 pupils who are:

  • currently attending a primary school in Hillingdon or a neighbouring authority, and you wish your child to move to Year 3 in the same school; or
  • currently attending a primary school and you wish to transfer your child to a Year 3 place at a different primary school in September 2019 (an In-Year application will need to be made in this case)

Junior schools in Hillingdon give priority to pupils attending their linked infant school, but they do not reserve places for individual pupils. Therefore, it is very important that you apply on time to ensure you do not miss out on an offer. Applications must be made for Year 2 pupils wishing to continue in the following Hillingdon junior schools:

  • Coteford Junior School
  • Field End Junior School
  • Grange Park Junior School
  • Harefield Junior School
  • Hillside Junior School
  • Lady Bankes Junior School
  • Minet Junior School
  • Newnham Junior School
  • Oak Farm Junior School
  • Whitehall Junior School
  • Whiteheath Junior School
  • Yeading Junior School
