Ruislip Lido and Woods volunteers

Ruislip Woods

Ruislip Woods cover an area of 726 acres and are the largest area of ancient woodland in Greater London. Hillingdon Council is dedicated to protecting this National Nature Reserve for future generations.

Volunteers are one of our most valuable resources. The time individuals can spare no matter how little enables us to achieve far more than could otherwise be managed. Volunteer work as a woodland ranger offers the chance to put your skills and strengths to good use. You will also have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge, learn new skills and make new friends.

  • Every Monday and Tuesday: 9.20am to 1pm.
  • Third Saturday of each month: 10am to 1pm.

  • Meet at Ruislip Lido car park.

Type of work

There is always conservation work to be carried out in the woods such as coppicing, scrub and pond clearance, bridge and footpath construction, fencing and most other types of woodland management. We need to survey and monitor various things in the woods such as bird, reptile, mammal and invertebrate populations, waterways and footpaths. The Woodland Centre, based at the Lido is often unmanned. Help is needed to keep the centre open and to be the first point of contact for the public.
