Household special collections

We offer a collection service giving residents the opportunity to dispose of unused or unwanted bulky household items including household fridges and freezers.

Bulk collections

Please always check with the store first as many offer 'take back schemes' so if you are purchasing a new large item such as a washing machine the company should take back your old one, often free of charge.

Smaller items, such as toasters can also be taken back to the store where you are purchasing the new one from. Residents can request a special collection if they wish to get rid of items that are too large or too heavy for the normal household waste collection.

We now offer a free collection of up to six bulky items (ie bed frames, mattresses, wardrobes ). We can also accept three black bags of unwanted smaller items in place of one bulky item. Your collection can be a mixture of black bags and bulky items, or all bulky or all black bags.

We understand some bulky items may need to be broken down eg a wardrobe. If this is the case we ask that the broken down item be placed into manageable bundles and tied together.

Examples of collections

  • Broken down wardrobe (bundled and tied with string) single bed frame, double mattress, headboard, sofa and three black bags containing old sauce pans and broken toys.
  • Shelving unit, old fire place, TV cabinet, TV and six black bags containing a mixture of items such as old handbags, broken Christmas tree lights and general rubbish which is not classed as household waste or recycling.

We cannot collect

  • any hazardous waste
